Dairy Wastewater Treatment & Advanced Water Solutions
Overview of Dairy Wastewater Challenges
Dairy processing plants generate highly polluted wastewater with high concentrations of organic matter (BOD, COD), fats, oils and grease (FOG), proteins, lactose, and suspended solids. Due to the use of cleaning-in-place (CIP) systems, detergents, sanitizers, and other chemicals, the effluent also contains high levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, and surfactants. If not properly treated, dairy wastewater can cause serious environmental damage, including eutrophication, odor problems, and toxicity to aquatic life.
